Job Summary
The Gas Distribution Technician 1 plays a key role in supporting gas infrastructure projects through skilled fieldwork and equipment operation. This position is ideal for candidates with foundational knowledge of underground utility installation who are ready to take on greater technical responsibilities. Under supervision, the Technician 1 assists in equipment operation, polyethylene fusion, and job site preparations while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with setup, operation, and breakdown of job sites for gas infrastructure installations.
Support fusion technicians with polyethylene pipe preparation and alignment.
Perform basic fusion techniques under supervision (socket fusion, butt fusion assistance).
Operate hand and small power tools such as drills, tampers, and pipe cutters.
Support the operation of mini-excavators and trenching equipment for underground utilities.
Read and interpret basic plans, utility maps, and safety drawings.
Maintain accurate records of daily work activities and materials used.
Follow proper procedures for utility locating and job site safety.
Assist in the inspection and testing of installed gas lines and fusions.
Load, transport, and organize materials and tools at the job site.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools are properly stored and maintained.
Qualifications and Skills
6 months to 1 year of experience in utility installation, construction, or gas distribution preferred.
Basic understanding of polyethylene fusion processes and pipe handling.
Familiarity with reading blueprints or site plans (entry-level).
Willingness to learn and perform hands-on technical tasks.
Ability to operate or assist with small machinery (e.g., tampers, excavators).
Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Must be able to lift 50+ lbs, bend, stoop, and work in outdoor environments.
